About Us

The name “Schenk” comes from our original owner, Merrill and Sally Schenk, who ran a small meat packing operation out of Woodinville, WA from 1940’s and into the 1960’s. Merrill’s business consisted of butchering cattle and selling swinging beef to local groceries and butcher shops. During this time Merrill employed future owner John “Jack” Lenz who purchased the company from Merrill in the early 1960’s.

Jack aspired to expand the business and in 1966 he purchased a larger processing facility in Stanwood, WA (formerly Rygg Packing).  Jack and his wife Beverely “Bev” moved their family of five children to Stanwood, where they all worked over the years growing and developing the family business. Today, Schenk is owned by Tom and Steve Lenz, sons of Jack and Bev.

During the 1970’s and 1980’s the Stanwood facility added boning and grinding departments and transitioned from primarily selling boneless beef to boxed beef.

In 1990 we expanded by adding another processing facility in Mount Vernon, WA. This facility began producing fresh and frozen hamburger patties in 1993 and began selling retail packs of ground beef in 2002.

Today, Schenk Packing is a third-generation family owned and operated company that produces safe, wholesome, and quality beef products to our customers nationwide.

We are constantly improving our products quality by integrating recent advances in meat processing technologies into our production lines. Currently, Schenk Packing Co., employs approximately 200 people in the Skagit and Snohomish county communities.
